What is Teen Patti?

Teen Patti means “three cards”. It is played with one 52-card deck and no jokers, usually by 3 to 6 players. Each player is dealt three cards, and the aim is to finish with the best three-card hand, or to bet so well that everyone else folds.

The hand order follows poker, from a trail (three of a kind) at the top down to a high card. Offline, it is a family and festival game. Online, apps such as Teen Patti Master offer multiplayer tables with free chips, so you can practise against real players any time.

Basic Teen Patti rules

Learn these eight rules and you can sit at any Teen Patti table.

  1. A standard 52-card deck, no jokers.
  2. Best with 3 to 6 players; up to 7 can sit at one table.
  3. Everyone puts in a fixed starting bet, the boot, before the deal.
  4. Each player gets three cards, face down.
  5. Play goes clockwise. You can play blind (without looking) or seen (after looking).
  6. On each turn you call, raise or pack (fold).
  7. When two players are left, either can ask for a show. The better hand wins the pot.
  8. A seen player can ask the previous seen player for a sideshow. If the hands are equal, the player who asked must pack.

How to play 3 Patti, step by step

The goal is simple: win the pot with the best hand, or by making everyone else pack.

  1. Pick a dealer

Agree on a dealer, or everyone draws a card and the highest card deals.

  2. Put in the boot

Every player adds the agreed boot amount so there is a pot to play for.

  3. Deal three cards

The dealer shuffles and gives each player three cards face down.

  4. Choose blind or seen

The player to the dealer's left starts. A blind player bets at least the current stake; a seen player bets at least twice that.

  5. Call, raise or pack

Betting goes round the table clockwise until players drop out.

  6. Ask for a sideshow

A seen player can ask the previous seen player to compare cards privately. The weaker hand packs. The other player may refuse.

  7. Go to a show

With two players left, either one can pay for a show. Cards go face up and the higher hand wins.

Sideshow and show in short: a sideshow happens mid-round between two seen players and knocks one out; a show only happens when two players remain and ends the round. If more than two players stay in for a very long time, some tables allow everyone to show at once.

Teen Patti hand rankings (high to low)

Knowing the hand order tells you when to raise, when to call and when to pack. The percentages show how often each hand is dealt.

When two hands tie

Trail
Higher rank wins, so A-A-A beats K-K-K.
Pure sequence & sequence
The highest card in the run decides. A-K-Q is the top run, then A-2-3.
Colour
Compare the highest card, then the second, then the third.
Pair
Higher pair wins. With the same pair, the third card (kicker) decides.
High card
Compare cards from highest to lowest.

Teen Patti hand probability

There are 22,100 possible three-card hands. This is how many of them make each hand, and the odds against being dealt it.

A pure sequence is rarer than a trail in three-card play, but the game still ranks the trail higher by tradition.

Blind and seen in Teen Patti

Blind player

Plays without looking at the cards and bets the current stake. A blind player can bet, pack or ask for a show when only two remain. If the first player goes blind, the stake equals the boot.

Seen player

Has looked at the cards and must bet at least twice the stake. In return, a seen player can chaal, pack, show or ask the previous seen player for a sideshow.

Teen Patti betting structures

  • No limit

You can bet any amount you have at any time, including all in.

  • Fixed limit

The table sets a minimum and maximum bet for each round, and they do not change.

  • Pot limit

Your biggest bet can be no more than what is already in the pot.

  • Spread limit

You pick any bet inside a set range, which gives freedom without huge swings.

Teen Patti playing styles

Spot these styles at your table, and know which one you play.

  • Loose

Plays many hands and takes risks, even with weak cards.

  • Tight

Plays few hands and folds often. Hard to beat but easy to read.

  • Passive

Mostly calls and rarely raises; waits for strong cards.

  • Conservative

Folds weak hands fast and keeps losses small.

  • Aggressive

Raises often and puts pressure on the table.

  • Bluffing

Bets big on weak cards to push others out. Works only if used rarely.

  • Calculative

Weighs odds and opponents' habits before every move.

Common 3 Patti terms

Pack

Teen Patti tips and tricks

No trick guarantees a win. These habits help you lose less and play better over time.

  1. Know the rules first

Learn the hand order and the blind and seen betting rules before you play any table.

  2. Start small

Low bets let you read the table without losing much while you learn.

  3. Set limits

Decide how much you will spend, and when you will stop, before the first hand.

  4. Manage your chips

Never bet more than you can afford to lose, and keep bets steady.

  5. Watch opponents

Notice who raises on weak cards and who only bets big with a strong hand.

  6. Judge your starting hand

Play pairs and high runs with confidence; pack weak, unconnected cards early.

  7. Bluff rarely

A bluff works best when you have been playing tight and the table believes you.

  8. Use sideshows wisely

Ask for one with a decent hand when you think the previous player is weaker.

  9. Stay calm

Tilt after a loss leads to bad calls. Take a break instead.

  10. Keep practising

Free chip tables are the safest way to sharpen your Teen Patti skills.

Teen Patti FAQs

What is Teen Patti?

Teen Patti, also called 3 Patti or Indian Poker, is a three-card game played with a standard 52-card deck. Each player tries to hold the best three-card hand, or to bluff the others into folding, and the last player standing takes the pot.

How do you play Teen Patti?

Everyone puts in the boot, the dealer gives each player three face-down cards, and players take turns clockwise. On your turn you play blind or seen, then call (chaal), raise or pack. The round ends when only one player is left or when the last two players go to a show.

What is the highest hand in Teen Patti?

A trail (three of a kind) is the top hand, and three aces is the best trail. A pure sequence (three cards in a row of the same suit) comes second.

Is Teen Patti a game of skill or luck?

Both. The cards you get are luck, but deciding when to play blind, when to raise, when to ask for a sideshow and when to pack is skill, and good players lose less over many hands.

Can I play Teen Patti for real money in India?

Since the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, online money games are banned across India, including Teen Patti apps that take deposits. Teen Patti real money play is still possible at licensed land-based casinos in Goa, for adults, under the casino's own rules.

Is Teen Patti Master a real cash app?

Treat any app that asks you to deposit money for Teen Patti as a risk. Online money games are not allowed in India, so such apps are unregulated and you may not get your money back. Play free, chip-only tables if you want to practise.

How can I win more often at Teen Patti?

Learn the hand rankings by heart, start with small bets, fold weak hands early, watch how others bet and bluff only now and then. Set a spending limit before you sit down and stop when you reach it.

Is it safe to play Teen Patti online?

Free play on a well-known app is low risk if you use a strong password and never share OTPs. Avoid APKs that promise guaranteed Teen Patti real cash wins, ask for deposits or ask for your bank details.
